GFW Day 1

GFW Day 1

After months of planning, we finally hit London today for Graduate Fashion Week. Celebrating its 25th year, GFW is the UK’s most exciting platform for emerging talent and we are buzzing to be one of the show’s official sponsors.

It’s got a hella place in my heart, I showed my own robot themed graduate collection here TEN years ago this June (please don’t use this information against me and calculate my age). I’ll be here all week to give you an inside look and I promise to bring you the highs, lows and even the outtakes of the event.

Here’s how my day played out…

5.30am Alarm Bells
I may be a London girl at heart but boohoo HQ is based in Manchester so it was an early morning powered by a serious amount of coffee and good vibes. Obviously terrified I was going to miss my alarm, unable to come out of Tom Hardy sponsored slumber, I spent most of the night wide awake considering everything that could go wrong the following day.

10 am Quick Change
SO the expectation Vs reality of life in fashion is widely discussed, but really, if you think it’s all almond milk lattes and an endless stream of free sh*t, think again. Before heading to the Brick Lane venue, me and four work BFFs crammed into the one room that was ready for check in to do a quick change and refresh. Embarrassingly the size of my bag caused one of the girls to ask if I was moving back to London. I just like to be prepared people.

On Tour | Wild Life Festival

June 7, 2016 by boohoo No Comments

We sent M’pho Lebojoa to Wild Life fest… here’s what she had to say

The sister festival to Parklife in Manchester, I thought this one would be a more low-key affair. But after riding on the shuttle bus to the nearest drop off point, I was amazed to see the mass people waiting in the queues…

We entered the festival via the main entrance and were greeted by a loud progressive beat, this was the ‘WHP Presents’ stage, my favourite stage all weekend (Sunday’s line up was the most alluring) and the best set design by far, a white grand structure sort of resembling a block of apartments with large screens displaying visuals. As you walked further into the festival, you were met by glitter covered girls of course stacked in their temporary festival tattoos and face jewels. The attire was a majority of denim cutoffs and bodysuits, a few fringed jackets, lace dresses and unitards, but whether the weather permitted or not, some skin was definitely to be shown! For the guys it seems that bucket hats are making a return this summer, dart your eyes into the crowd and you are for sure to spot a few bucket hats floating on the youthful festival goers.

One thing that was highly noticeable was the youthfulness of the crowd. It seemed that the majority was a younger demographic ranging from 14-19, I noticed they were mainly huddled at the main stage during performances by the likes of Skepta, James Bay and Bastille as well as the Big Top stage when Flume performed his set. Nonetheless, the energy and vibe were great, and with an unlimited supply of hotdogs, burgers and slushies, it was set to be a great day!

Summer Lovin No.1

June 7, 2016 by boohoo No Comments
Summer Lovin No.1

The personal goals we set back on January 1st are a long distant memory and the pressures of the ‘perfect summer body’ have escalated into panic mode.

Extreme diets are in full swing, maybe you’ve gone for the aloe vera shots or a juicing detox? You’ve booked yourself on high intensity interval training and hot yoga even though you nearly barfed after it last time. But who cares, you have your heart set on a sheer little number for a beach party you just HAVE to have and nothing less than flawless abs is good enough! Just think of how good you’ll look in your Insta pics..

Your friends all say they drink kale smoothies for breakfast and eat quinoa for lunch so you feel compelled to join in. But realistically are they? (Yeh right!)

There are some days when only a fully loaded burger and shoestring fries will do and YES it is ok to just ‘netflix & chill’ in your onesie even though you RSVP’d to running club! YOLO

GFW Day 2

June 6, 2016 by boohoo No Comments
GFW Day 2

Back again following another crazy long but beautiful day at Graduate Fashion Week. Expecting things to be a little quieter after Sunday’s first day rush, we couldn’t have been more wrong, hours pass in a heartbeat at this event!

Here’s what went down…

8am Suspect packages

The show starts at 10am on the daily but me and two colleagues from the press team arrived early to give the stand a mini makeover. Carrying a mannequin, body under one arm, legs under the other, I enter flustered only to find fashion mogul Hilary Alexander stuffing bags with show programmes. Love her!

10am Grand Tour

We’re taken around the event by one of the shows trustees to get an expert view of the talent and excitement on offer. Talking to the grad class of 2016, the ideas and energy gave me brand new goals. And, then I met Tilly the Boston Terrier, life made.

12pm Special Guest

This year we teamed up with GFW to give the grads a chance to design a dress for our 10th birthday. Out of hundreds of entries, you lovely people voted Ella Maskrey as our winner. Her badass boho dress will be made and sold at boohoo later this year! Ella popped by the stand to talk inspo, summer plans and the scary world of adulting.
