World Gin Day is back for its ninth year on June 10th, and this time around it’s ticking all the right boxes. From a gin treasure hunt in four of London’s best bars to a quirky pop-up scooping out free G&T ice-cream, we got in touch with DesignMyNight for the best places to raise a glass across the capital.
Take Part in a Boozy Treasure Hunt
Thought treasure hunts were confined to kids parties and rum drinking pirates? Think again. Willem Barentsz has created the ultimate gin treasure hunt for World Gin Day and it will have you scavenging for cocktails and maps at four of London’s best bars. Visit all four, take snaps at each venue with the hashtags #WBJasmineTrail and #WillemBarentsz, alongside your dream destination and you could win the trip of a lifetime. Because we’re super nice, we’ll tell you that Graphic Bar in Soho is one of the bars taking part. So, what are you waiting for? Book a table through DesignMyNight and start your gin journey right away.
Try Gin Beer at The Four Thieves
The Four Thieves ain’t no one trick pony. This Battersea boozer has a games room with dance revolution and crazy golf, and it stocks an impressive selection of gin (70 bottles to be precise). For World Gin Day they’ve made 10 gin infusions and a unique in-house gin beer to satisfy all your gin drinking needs. They’ve got a gin yard serving refreshing G&Ts too, if you fancy taking a break from showing off at dance revolution upstairs that is.
Sample a Secret Gin Flight at 214 Bermondsey
To celebrate World Gin Day, 214 Bermondsey are offering a special flight and you gin loving lunatics can order it throughout June. There is a catch though – you have to know the secret password. Luckily for you, we know what it is. Tell your bartender that “I’m here to check in for the international flight”, and viola: you’ll be presented with global gins and an envelope telling you which gin is which once you’ve finished sipping all three.
Visit London’s First Ever Gin Hotel
The gin gods answered our boozy prayers last year with the opening of The Distillery, London’s first ever gin hotel. Visit their first-floor restaurant, GinTonica, on World Gin Day and get down and dirty with some garnish-perfect G&Ts and tasty tapas. Offering gin-fuelled cocktails and postcard views of Portobello Road, this four-storey gin palace is a great spot to raise a toast on the 10th.
Get Your Hands on FREE G&T Ice-Cream
You know that saying – ‘when life gives you gin, make ice-cream’? Okay, this may not be an actual saying, but The Hoxton have meshed together the two things we love most to bring Londoners a boozy G&T ice-cream for World Gin Day. Topped with gin soaked orange peel and savoury wafers, all you have to do is buy a £5 cocktail to get your free scoop. Simples.
Scoff G&T Crisps at HipChip
There were a lot of firsts for London’s restaurant scene last year, Hipchips being one of them. This crisp-only restaurant has been featured on many an Instagram account since opening and they’re about to get another surge of social love with their Gordon’s Gin collaboration. They teamed up with the brand for World Gin Day to to create a drool-worthy gin flavoured crisp ‘n’ dip snacking box, and when you order the exclusive box on the 10th you’ll get a free Gordon’s premix G&T can.
Go See London’s Bombay Sapphire Gin Garden
Dreaming of celebrating World Gin Day in another country? Skip jet lag and flight delays on the 10th and go to the Bombay Sapphire Gin Garden at Cinnamon Kitchen. This Indian-themed garden boasts luxury gazebos, life size baby elephant ornaments and a bespoke gin bar. Grab one of their chilli and cucumber G&Ts and settle into this exotic pop-up for a relaxed approach to World Gin Day.
Go to a Gin Brunch
Friends who brunch together, stay together. Gather your inner circle on the 10th and celebrate World Gin Day in style at Bon Vivant. Their gin brunch tickets are £24 a pop but that includes two cocktails, a brunch dish and other mouth-watering goodies. Running from 12pm to 7pm, you have plenty of time to make it down to the gin-fuelled soiree.
Sip Limited Edition G&Ts at The Den St Martins Lane
If you’re a die-hard G&T fan, The Den at St Martin’s Lane is the only place for you on June 10th. The mixologists at this intimate Covent Garden spot have created a special G&T menu for World Gin Day, and each drink is inspired by the quirky portraits adorning the walls. Sink into one of their cosy leather sofas with your partner in crime and sip your way through the limited-edition menu.
Drink £5 Gin Cocktails at Rivington Greenwich
Plymouth Gin has been in the business of making gin for over 100 years, so it goes without saying they know a thing or two about crafting the perfect bottle. To celebrate World Gin Day, they’ve teamed up with Rivington Greenwich to offer four unique cocktails for £5 a pop. Stay safe with a classic gimlet or go wild and order the five knots, but whatever you choose to sip, it’s sure to knock your socks off.
