As part of our #allgirls campaign, we’ll be profiling a boss chick from the boohoo group each week. First up, it’s our joint CEO and fierce female, Carol Kane.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?

An artist.  I’ve always been creative and I initially studied fine art, before changing to fashion.

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR JOB?

There were 36 students in my year and only three of us got jobs. I was probably the most commercially minded designer. I started off working for a supplier and they would cover my travel costs into London every day.  The first collection I designed was a range of ski jackets for Topshop and they bought the lot. I was offered a full-time paid position the next day.

WHO INSPIRES YOU ON THE DAILY?

My team.  You’re only as strong as the people you work with and I’m lucky enough to have one of the best teams in the industry.

I’M RESPONSIBLE FOR…

I’m privileged to be responsible for the boohoo group alongside my joint CEO.

THE BEST THING ABOUT MY JOB IS…

Every day is different and when I walk through that door I have no idea what might happen.  The stories I could tell you!

MY FAVOURITE WORK MEMORY IS…

The ones we are yet to make.

WHAT’S THE BEST DECISION YOU’VE EVER MADE?

Starting boohoo.

IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE ABOUT GETTING INTO THE INDUSTRY IT WOULD BE…

Never assume you have something right. Even when you have the best product and it’s sold out, always ask yourself could you have done better? Always be confident in your ideas, but be willing to look at it with a critical eye. Most of all enjoy it and laugh, a lot!
