When it comes to rooftops, London’s got ‘em all. There’s no need to panic about researching for the best ones though; to get you ready for summer, we got in touch with DesignMyNight for the top 10 rooftops across the city. Whether you want to get married (and divorced) at a Las Vegas-themed hideaway, or have some sophisticated cocktails in a secret sky-high garden, there’s a tonne of pretty places to soak up some vitamin D.
1. Aviary
As far as rooftop restaurants go, Aviary is one of London’s best. Situated at the top of the Montcalm Royal London House, make your way to the 10th floor for picturesque views of the city and a food offering fit for a king. In between stuffing your face and marvelling at London’s stunning skyline, take a peek at their cocktail menu. From Champagne to gin-spiked cocktails, it’s sure to get your nod of approval.
2. Rumpus Rooms
A modern interpretation of the 1920s? That’s the look Rumpus Room has gone for. Tucked away beside the Thames, this hotspot boasts a smattering of vibrant-coloured furnishings, with shrubbery and potted plants thrown in for good measure. Once you’re finished up taking snaps inside, make your way out onto the terrace for a beautiful view of the London’s bright lights.
3. Bar Elba
For those not in the know: Napoleon was exiled in 1814 and ended up taking 600 of his closest friends (and his fave horse, Marengo) to the Mediterranean island of Elba. Inspired by his plight, Bar Elba in Waterloo mimics the tropical vibe of his party haven with bright seating and bold cocktails. Promising happy hour from 4pm to 6pm midweek, and between 12pm to 1pm and 4pm to 6pm on weekends, it’s one for your summer bucket list.
4. Skylight
If you haven’t been to Skylight yet, shame on you. This pop-up rooftop is back for the summer months, and this time around it’s got lots of activities to get stuck into. If you’re not playing around on the pétanque and croquet courts, fill up on street food from Yiro and Flip Side, and wash everything down with watermelon mojitos alongside giant jugs of rum punch.
5. Radio Rooftop
Looking to eye spy London’s iconic landmarks and buildings? Do it at Radio Rooftop Bar. Positioned at the top of one of London’s best boutique hotels, this joint has stunning interiors and you’re guaranteed prime views of Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral. Dress code is glamorous, so make sure you go to town when planning your outfit.
6. Coq D’Argent
If you’re looking to take your date night to the next level, try Coq D’Argent. This oasis in the sky has breathtaking views of London, with a secret garden for you to wander around. In terms of drinks, you can cool down with refreshing cocktails and sparkling wine.
7. Jin Bo Law
London’s newest rooftop has been revealed, and it’s an absolute corker. Ticking all the boxes, Jin Bo Law has postcard-pretty views and a handful of inventive drinks to keep you coming back time and time again. If you’re planning on making a day of it and staying to watching the sunset, make sure you order the Milk ‘n’ Cookies and the Peas of Mind.
8. FEST Camden
FEST Camden is a one stop shop for your perfect night out. It’s got a club, it’s got kooky cordoned off spaces, but more importantly – it’s got a roof terrace. Plastered with flowers and flamingos, you’d be fooled into thinking you’re somewhere a lot more exotic than London. With pizza ovens fired up all day long and a happy hour from 5pm to 8pm, you’ll be planning your next visit the second you leave.
9. Madison
Whether you live in London or are just visiting for the day, Madison is a must visit. Perched at the Penthouse of One New Change, this spot is renowned for its views of the capital and it’s one of Europe’s largest terraces. If that wasn’t enough to convince you to pay it a visit, they’ve got a brand new menu for summer and they have an incredible line-up of DJ nights come weekends.
10. Queen of Hoxton
In terms of pop-ups, Queen of Hoxton is, well, queen. Thinking outside the box, they’ve turned their rooftop space into a futuristic Las Vegas, and it’s even got a wedding chapel where you can get married by drag Elvis. Food and drink-wise, they’ve got McVegan burgers, rhubarb G&Ts, and if you’re regretting that spur of the moment marriage, you can always get a divorce certificate from their vending machine.
