Sometimes life can get a bit much, right?

Whether it’s stressing about your dissertation, being snowed under at work, worrying about money or freaking out over where your life is going; even the most organised people feel overwhelmed from time to time.

Keeping all those plates spinning is tricky and when you feel them slipping, burying your head in the sand and waiting for it to go away always seems to be the easy option.

But instead of letting stress reign supreme, there are a few simple things you can try to make you feel more zen:

1. Digital detox

These days we spend our working day on a computer and then go home and stare at our phone screens all night. It’s impossible to unwind and feel less stressed when you’re always switched “on” so have a digital detox once a week.

Lock your phone away and do something else with your evening. I promise you’ll instantly feel less stressed when you’re not worrying about what people on Instagram are doing or if you’re missing out on something on Twitter.

2. Focus on self-care

When life is crazy busy, we tend to forget to look after number one. Schedule some me-time every day to focus on YOU. Put on a face mask, have a bubble bath, give yourself a manicure, read a book…whatever it is, take some time each day to focus on self-care.

Not only is it relaxing and a great distraction but when you feel your best, sassy self, you instantly feel like you can take on anything.

3. Work out

There’s nothing like a work out to release stress.

Exercise releases endorphins (yep, it’s scientifically proven to make you happier!) and gives you a boost. I always feel like I can do anything after going hard in a gym class for an hour, and it helps to re-focus my energy.

Plus, you’re focusing on NOTHING ELSE while you’re working out. If that doesn’t drive away stress…

4. Say “no”
You want to be a sassy AF girl boss who can take on anything and anyone. But sassy girl bosses know when to say “no”. They know when to say they can’t do something and they certainly don’t feel bad about it. SPOILER ALERT: the world won’t end when you say “no”.

People will respect you much more for saying you can’t do something from the off than if you let them down later on in the line. Whether that’s telling your boss you’re struggling with work load or saying “no” to dinner with you girls, you’ll feel better for it.

5. Re-focus your to-do list

To-do lists are great for keeping you on track but they can also make you feel mega stressed. Instead of adding to it each day, start a new one and re-focus. What HAS to be done today? What can wait ‘till later in the week? What are your priorities?

Doing this every day will help keep you on track, without adding to your stresses!

6. BREATHE!

Count to ten, and just breathe.

It’ll clear your head and help you refocus your attention.

Simple, but it works!
