After the release of his debut single, U Sure Do, we caught up with DJ and Londoner, Bluey to ask him some of life’s big questions…
How did it all start for you?
My dad bought me a guitar after getting really good reviews at parents evening that sparked my interest in music. Touring with Akon was definitely the start of my career.
What does your typical day look like?
At the minute, I normally wake up in a hotel in a new city, rush around to pack my stuff, meet my team and jet off to another city where I’ll do local promos and then head straight to soundcheck. After this, I finally get to eat some real food (airport and airplane food don’t count) have a quick power nap before turning up to the club as support for the headline act. When I’m not on tour I’m pretty much in the studio for twelve hours creating new music.
Describe your sound in three words…
Unique, deep and contagious
What was your most memorable gig?
When I was sixteen I played at Ministry Of Sound after winning a college mix tape competition. Although I only came second due to my tubes jumping, I learnt a valuable lesson about equipment that day!
What did you have on your playlist growing up?
Notorius B.I.G, 2Pac, MJ, & DJ EZ’s “Pure Garage”
What’s the last song you listened to?
Omarion “Distance” – such a banger!
Who’s the coolest person you’ve met?
I met James Earl Jones who played the original Darth Vader.
If you could collab with anyone who would it be and why?
I’d love to collab with South African producer Black Coffee. I love his deep calming sound – he makes me want to party in the coolest calmest way.
What does 2017 have in store for you?
I’ll be releasing more tracks as well as supporting Scoop & Akon and headlining shows in Ibiza, Montreal, London, South of France, Switzerland and more.
What advice would you give anyone wanting to get into music?
Do it for love and stay true to you.
My style is…
Relaxed with a hint of electricity.
I really can’t live without…
Chocolate…delicious milk chocolate. Preferably whole nut – I can eat one bar after the other and it has to be straight from the fridge. Obvs.
At the weekend I can be found…
Mostly writing and recording in the studio or spinning at ‘The Box’ in Soho. If it’s a Sunday I’m in bed all day for sure!
My special skills are…
Reading people & using my hands. My hand to eye co-ordination is pretty on point but I guess music has helped with that.
I’m always talking about…
Melodies…and food. Those two things pretty much never leave me alone!
A word or phrase I overuse is…
I say “innit” a lot – maybe that’s because I’m a Londoner.
If I was an emoji I’d be…
My manager Mikee got me the laughing/crying emoji teddy because it’s my most used.
