Amaluna Cirque Du Soleil

Earlier this month The Fix team were transported to another realm in the form of Amaluna at the opening night of Cirque Du Soleil’s global touring show in Manchester. Well, after we’d successfully managed to take the wrong turning several times at The Trafford Centre which is where the performances are held under a massive white tent until 2nd October.

Loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest, it tells a love story between Prospera’s daughter and one of the men washed up on the island following a dramatic storm. Aside from the plot, what makes Amaluna is its wow factor, because simply put – there’s lots of it.

There wasn’t a single moment we weren’t in awe, spending most of the performance in shock at what we were witnessing. Especially when I can barely touch my toes. Yet the talented cast go from catapulting across the crowd to suspending from the ceiling and jumping thorugh hoops – literally, without, from what it looked like, barely breaking a sweat.

It’s predominantly a female cast with incredible vocals and music throughout. But the men definitely bring their A-game during the group scenes defying gravity and generally killing it.

Each scene is a feast for the eyes with more impressive moves, infectious energy from the cast and a show you just can’t stop watching.  Cirque Du Soleil is a household name for a reason, and Amaluna doesn’t disappoint. It’s a night out with a difference, one that will inspire your imagination and take you out of this world.
