Pancake Day is here – but you can forget staying at home with sieves and self-raising flour ‘cos this year’s offering is flippin’ great. From pancake freakshakes to stacks topped with gooey mac ‘n’ cheese, DesignMyNight have rounded up their favourite places for pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.
Make all your pancake dreams come true and head to The Breakfast Club. They’ve ditched traditional toppings to bring you four wonderfully-sugary stacks – just be sure to wear your stretchy pants. They have nine venues spread across London and if you visit one of their cafes after 5pm between the 20th and the 27th, you can get any one of these specials, plus a beer, wine, cocktail or soft drink for just £10. Winner winner pancake dinner.
Greenwood might be the new kid on the block but they’ve gone all out to celebrate their very first Pancake Day. Offering loaded pancakes with gooey chocolate chip cookies, cookie dough ice-cream topped with crushed peanuts and honeycomb chunks – this the definition of pancake porn.
If you want pancakes that are (literally) on another level, visit the Queen of Hoxton’s rooftop pop-up, Skye Halla. They’re hosting a six-hour pancake party and there will be plenty of pretty pancakes to leave you and your tummy content. If you want our advice, go for their mac ‘n’ cheese monster. You won’t regret it.
If you’re after a stack of Instagram-worthy pancakes, there’s only one place for you and that’s The Diner. Their red velvet pancakes look divine or if you feel like going savoury, try their bacon and banana pancakes. With venues all across London, including Soho and Camden, scooting down here is a no-brainer.
If there’s one thing better than pancakes, it’s pancakes and booze. Luckily for you, The Book Club have combined the two. Take a trip to their Shoreditch plot and fill your belly with their pina colada stack or if you want a meatier option, get down and dirty with their pulled pork option.
If you haven’t slurped a freakshake yet, what have you been doing?! See the error of your ways immediately and stroll down to Burdock on the 28th. They have a pancake freakshake with your name written all over it. Their calorific masterpiece is blended with creamy New York cheesecake and cookie dough with three soft berry pancakes plonked on top for good measure. Heaven.
If you happen to be around West London on the 28th, call in and see No. 197 Chiswick Fire Station. It’s the prettiest brunch spot around and they’re serving three different types of pancakes. We recommend trying the smoked salmon pancakes with avocado and dill – super tasty and healthy.
It’s the one day in the year you can give in to your sweet tooth and steer clear of your calorie counter and All Star Lanes have a special offer on the 28th. Whatever choice you make, you can bank on it being a great one.
Hailed as one of the best American-inspired joints in the city, head to Blues Kitchen in Shoreditch and make a move on their fluffy pancakes. Topped with either blueberry and vanilla cream or maple syrup and crispy bacon, we dare you not to lick your plate clean.
If you want a plate of posh pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, Christopher’s is the place for you. They have a tall stack of buttermilk pancakes smothered in Nutella but the real crowning jewel is their blue corn pancake with grilled lobster, avocado, sweetcorn and smoked jalapeño salsa. Fancy.
