It's Britney B*tch

This week marks the 15 year anniversary of I’m A Slave 4 U hitting the airwaves (and our Walkmans) and nine years since the infamous ‘If Britney survived 2007 you can handle today’ episode when she buzz cut her hair in Esther’s Haircutting Studio in California. So I thought we should take some time out to appreciate the life of the one and only Ms. Spears…

It’s been a long and hard road for Brit since her Disney club days, shooting to fame at just 17 clad in ab-exposing school uniform singing Hit Me Baby One More Time. Enter a new army of tweenie girls (and boys) who religiously learned every dance routine to perform at any given opportunity (luckily for us, these moves were printed in the single sleeve).

Fast-forward to her ‘Golden Years’, as Oops I Did It Again smashes the charts and a worldwide shortage of red PU/spandex becomes a real thing. We all have a fave Britney moment, so what better when than getting the Stylefix girls to tell me their best bits.

My personal highlight is from the early Britney era when she released Sometimes. I mean, who didn’t want a pair of bright white cargo pants? I remember my brother and I copying the moves (which came with the CD = win) and performing them in our kitchen when we were about 8 years old. Cool kids never die…

“Choosing my fave Britney moment is like picking my fave child – if I had children. Music-wise it would be Stronger – the lyrics showing a sassy, strong and more grown up Brit and embodies her at her best point. Great song, killer bod and just the right amount of wind machine. Who else can make dancing with a silver chair look so effortless?!

The moment? When she surprised a fan at her house – this was played on her tour (which I obv watched EVERY SECOND) – she was just so down to earth and ate pizza – the dream.”

“My fave is 1999 Britney’s friendship with Melissa Joan Hart AKA Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Melissa appeared in the You Drive me Crazy vid and in the same year Britters returned the favour starring in an espisode of Sabrina The Teenage Witch. The turn of the millennium vibe takes me right back to being 16.”

Oops I Did It Again – solely for the fact that it takes me back to my end of year performance in primary school where we did a dance routine and loved it. And also because this was when I remember her reaching her peak and becoming THE phenomenon.

My Britney moment was definitely when her and JT rocked the double denim look, they were the best couple of the 90s, I still take inspo from this!”
