Frills were in fine form on the catwalk for SS16, and this year they’re big… literally! Combining delicacy and drama in sheer tiers and volumous structure, think less princess more girl power in a retro glam take on ruffles

On the Catwalk…

Temperley London kept the frills bold but simple, adding accents to an already heavily embroidered dress; whereas Micheal Kors went for an all-over effect, combining tiers and applique in a much more detailed design.

Why we love it…

It works for everyone! More boobs than bum? go for frills on the hips. Already have a fabulous behind? Stick the frills up top. Straight up and down? Whatever you like, go crazy! Pick the style for your body shape and get your frills in position…

How to wear it…

1. #GirlBoss

Take a twist on 80s power dressing and swap the shoulder pads for voluminous ruffles – smart, sexy and shows you mean business!

2. Preppy Peplum

Amp up the mini skirt with a peplum hem and zip detail. Pair with sheers for date night or bold colours to take you from day to play.

3. Tiers of Joy

Go for a more casual take on the trend in a tiered cami that you can just as easily pair with skinnies as a leather skirt or a pair of shorts when winter turns to warm weather.(We are allowed to start thinking about that now, it’s called being prepared!)

Celeb-spiration: Amanda Seyfried

Looking ravishing in ruffles, Amanda Seyfried tackled the trend in a black Balenciaga gown. Take fashion cues and keep it architectural with strong lines and asymmetric style.
