This week, we’re crushin’ on Hackney-born hip-hop singer, EMIL.

After working with the likes of The Heavytackerz (who’ve produced tracks for Stormzy, Skepta and Katy B to name but a few) and featuring on P Money’s mixtape, Money Over Everyone, she released her new single, These Walls just last week.

Here’s what went down when we grabbed five…

How did it all start? 

I’ve always known I wanted to do something in music. I wrote and sang a lot growing up and when I was 14 I was in a girl group. I think that’s when my true passion for singing started

What does your typical day look like? 

I exercise and vocal train every morning other than that my life is pretty spontaneous

Describe your sound in 3 words? 

Enchanting , distinctive, soothing

What was your most memorable gig? 

I performed one of my unreleased songs All Night three times in a row one night – it was a very proud moment!

What did you have on your playlist growing up? 

Every Chris Brown album

What’s the last song you listened to? 

Krept & Konan – Wo Wo Wo

Who’s the coolest person you’ve met?

Big Sean – he’s really cool.

If you could collaborate with anyone who would It be and why? 

Kanye West – he’s just a genius tbh

What does 2018 have in store for you? 

Hopefully great memories, more success and great opportunities.

What advice would you give to anyone trying to start music? 

Don’t stop.
