This week, we’re crushin’ on LDN singer-songwriter, Hannah Jane Lewis.

After moving to Florida at 14, she returned to her UK roots in her 20s and released an EP all on her own by 2016 (no biggie.) Now, she’s bagged herself a deal with Polydor, is working on an album as we speak and her latest single Raincheck is out now.

Here’s what went down when we grabbed five…

How did it all start for you?

Maybe singing along to Disney movies or dancing to the Spice Girls, but I really don’t remember wanting to do anything else than what I’m doing now. I grew up singing, dancing and acting and when I was a teenager I moved to NYC to study drama and music at NYU. After that I came back to London and just started writing tonnes, and things have got more and more exciting since then!

What does your typical day look like?

I try to wake up early and run, it’s the only thing that clears my head and I love London before everyone wakes up. After that I get ready and most days go to the studio to write – it’s my fave, if I don’t do enough of it I start to get anxious. If I’m not in the studio then I’m probably rehearsing for a gig, or running around London like a crazy person trying to find outfits for shows/photo shoots.

Describe your sound in three words…

Glittery quirky pop

What was your most memorable gig?

Maybe seeing Beyoncé when I was younger, she is literally like a superhero on stage – no one can sing and dance like her.  It gave me the bug to do the same!

What did you have on your playlist growing up?

So many different things, but I was pretty obsessed with Britney Spears, The Spice Girls, Katy Perry and literally tried to morph myself into Avril Lavigne lolz. I’ve always listened to pop, when I lived in Florida I listened to a lot of rap and also a little pop/country – so my playlist was eclectic to say the least.

What’s the last song you listened to?

‘Love You Like That’ by Dagny – such a banger!

Who’s the coolest person you’ve met?

I met the Olsen Twins once (my childhood obsession) and that was fascinating, they were like these beautiful trendy porcelain dolls.

If you could collab with anyone who would it be and why?

If I ever collab-ed with Britney I’d probably die, just because I’ve loved her forever and she’s part of the reason I do this. Also Katy Perry, for the same reasons. ALSOOO (sorry) Eminem, that would be the dream and probably unexpected – but I grew up listening to him and love when he collabs.

What does 2018 have in store for you?

I’m releasing my next single in the beginning of February – so that’s super exciting. I’ll keep releasing new music throughout the year and will be playing lots of shows! Will be keeping things pink and glittery of course!

What advice would you give anyone wanting to get into music?

I think you’ve really got to know who you are as an artist, because when it all starts kicking off there will be a million people pushing you in different directions. Work super super SUPER hard and keep at it, this industry can be really tough sometimes but you never know what is around the corner. Most importantly, don’t compare yourself – it’s a trap!

My style is…

Cher from Clueless meets Baby Spice.

I really can’t live without…

Honestly, my phone which is SO BAD. But also sparkling water and sesame snaps (a severely underrated snack.)

At the weekend I can be found…

Somewhere drinking wine with my friends.

My special skills are…

Being super indecisive and asking everyone else’s opinion so many times that they want to kill me.

I’m always talking about…

The Bengal cat that I really really really need right now.

The hashtag I always use is…

I’m not really a hashtagger but if I looked through my tweets it would probably be something like #notsorry concerning something really basic and embarrassing that I’m probably doing.

A word or phrase I overuse is…

Dreamyyyyyyy.

If I was an emoji I’d be…

Obvs the unicorn, but also the blonde girl with her hand to the side.
