This week, we’re crushin’ on singer-songwriter, Deva Mahal.

The daughter of blues musician, Taj Mahal, she’s co-written the song Never Let You Go on his Grammy Award nominated album, collab-ed with the likes of Fat Freddy’s Drop and her latest single, Can’t Call It Love is out now.

Here’s what went down when we grabbed five…

What does your typical day look like? 

I haven’t had a typical day in ages and it depends on if I am on the road but this past year, I was on tour and my days looked like this; Wake up extremely early, get on the tour bus, travel to next venue, eat lunch, soundcheck, 2 hours to write and read emails, dinner, get ready for show, perform, pack up and get back on the bus to get to the next town.

Emotional, Powerful, Soulful

What was your most memorable gig?

A toss up between- The first time i ever sang at Carnegie Hall, The first time I sang at the Apollo or Brixton Academy singing for Fat Freddy’s Drop.

What did you have on your playlist growing up?

What does 2018 have in store for you?

Making some extra delicious Koolade and getting the world to drink it!! Plus.. promoting the release of my debut album “Run Deep”.

What advice would you give anyone wanting to get into music?

Make sure your work is honest and learn and understand the business
