He’s the Chicago-born singer songwriter who’s already been on tour with Fifth Harmony and is  currently touring with Little Mix. If you hadn’t heard of Aleem, you need to get him on your radar.

He released his EP, Open Letters back in 2016 and his new single, So Damn Good is out today. Here’s what went down when we grabbed five…

How did it all start for you?
I got my start in Chicago recording demos in a studio. I spent my time working with producers and learning to write, record and perform live. My demos helped me get discovered and signed by my current manager and from there, it’s been all about growing and continuing to work on the craft.

What does your typical day look like?
I like stay in the habit of writing. Whether I’m working in the studio, or in my apartment, I like to stay fresh and up to date with documenting my ideas. If I’m not in the studio, you can find me rehearsing my live show. Staying warm and rehearsed is crucial.

Describe your sound in three words…
Fun, soulful and upbeat

What was your most memorable gig?
Opening night of the 727 with Fifth Harmony last year in Dublin. It was my first ever sold out arena performance and I had no idea what to expect. From the minute I walked on stage, till the last chord I played, the crowd was rocking and it was a great start to an amazing tour.

What did you have on your playlist growing up?
I listened to a lot of Blink 182 and Green Day. I was definitely into the punk scene.

What’s the last song you listened to?
“Harder to Breathe” – Maroon 5

Who’s the coolest person you’ve met?
Sammy Sosa. He played for my favourite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. He threw me a ball at my first Cubs game and came over to chat afterwards to ask if I had fun. Something I’ll never forget.

If you could collab with anyone who would it be and why?
Bruno Mars. He’s one of my biggest idols in the music industry. I’ve learned so much about songwriting and performing from following Bruno. I’d love to collab with him some day.

What does the rest of 2017 have in store for you?
I can’t wait to hit the road with Little Mix. Coming back to perform for such amazing fans will definitely be epic. New music and some tour dates of my own are in the works and I cannot wait to share more info soon!

What advice would you give anyone wanting to get into music?
