Dancing to Christmas songs in a Holiday party dress

Music has got us through some of our hardest days over the last two years, but there is nothing better than rocking around the Christmas tree to festive tunes in your cozy Christmas PJs and lighting the fire! Since the holidays are approaching, we have revealed each US state’s favorite Christmas song – and we think some of the results will shock you.

Alexa, play…. Mistletoe by Justin Bieber? Last Christmas by WHAM!? Or the iconic All I Want For Christmas by Festive Queen Mariah Carey? Whichever song it is that gets you in the festive mood, we know the holidays wouldn’t be the same without music! That’s why we have taken the time to dig into the snow and find out the most popular Christmas artists across the country.

Who is the USA’s favorite Christmas singer

Our research found some interesting results. Although you might think Mariah is the certified Queen of Christmas or that the holidays wouldn’t be complete without the jazz tones of Michael Bublé, the most popular artist was someone else entirely.

The most searched Christmas singer is Sia

Although she’s better known for singing about chandeliers, Sia is also a very successful festive artist. Her Christmas album ‘Everyday is Christmas’ gave us great tunes like Santa’s Coming for Us and Candy Cane Lane. And who could forget when TikTokers were desperately trying to sing Snowman all in one breath.

With her wide range of Christmas tunes, Sia is officially the most Googled Christmas artist in a total of 28 states.

Last Christmas also dominates searches

Back in the ’80s, WHAM! caused waves in the states from across the Atlantic with their iconic hit ‘Last Christmas’. Today, the anthem has a total of 715 million streams on Spotify.

This means that WHAM! are the second most-searched-for Christmas artist across the country, being the most popular artist in 22 states.

All I Want for Christmas just makes its way onto the list

Although Mariah is a Christmas legend, she’s only the most-searched-for Christmas singer in one state (South Carolina). Despite the fact she doesn’t take the number one spot in more than one state, the diva still holds a special place in our hearts.

I wanna wish you a merry Christmas… From the bottom of my heart!

With its simple and heartfelt lyrics, Feliz Navidad is still the number one song in the hearts of so many people across the country (even if it was originally released back in the 70s!). Although the song is loved far and wide, Jose Feliciano as an artist, is the most searched for festive singer in only one state: Puerto Rico.

You can find the full results in the table below:

Modern classics and throwbacks

So there you have it! Although these artists may dominate searches in individual states, there are still plenty of other artists that we love to sing along to during December. Who could forget Kelly Clarkson and Arianna Grande with their modern classics? And of course, we always love to throw it back with The Pogues and some Frank Sinatra.

Whoever your festive singer of choice is, we hope that you’ve got your holiday party dress chosen, your playlists are brimming with Christmas classics and you’re fully prepped to party as we approach the most wonderful time of the year!

How we got the data…

To understand which artists’ Christmas songs are being searched the most in each US state, we used the Spotify Christmas hits playlist to pull search volume data for each song, meaning that each artist has therefore been categorized to pull the total number of songs.
