Description

Taking inspiration from the 1920s Havana heydays, Burlock is now open for business on Duke Street as one of the largest rum houses in the UK. As well as more than 200 types of rum, there is a menu of authentic Cuban and Caribbean food to try with paired cocktails - anyone brave enough for a grasshopper?

The venue is located in Marylebone, and features a grand house veranda which is bookable for up to 40 guests, as well as a Havana-style barber shop which doubles up as a drinking den.

The bar offers a unique continuous happy hour and £1 from the grasshopper challenge (a grasshopper, a shot of rum and a Barbadian 10 Saints Beer) will go to charity.

Fantastic night out for my boyfriends 30th. Lee helped to organise everything for the night, from booking a private area to helping me set up balloons and banners on the day. Even when my group number changed there was never a problem. The guys behind the bar on the night were so helpful and kept checking whether everyone was enjoying themselves. They were friendly and enjoyed a few drinks with us and let us know about lots of the different rums! Definitely recommend! rspurr visited Burlock on 06 May 2017

Nice place, good drinks but really poor service. We had a 15% offer discount on our first drinks through an app in our phones and when they brought us the bill (right away after serving us the drinks) the bill had already included service charge, being the price of the drinks only few pences discounted. I said politely to the waiter that if could take the service off the bill and he did it, but a couple of minutes afterwards the manager or supervisor came to the table asking me why I took it off and also saying if we didn't mind to order at the bar the next round if we didn't want to pay the service, because they were charging service if the waiter was going to the table to take the order. The point is that the waiter came to the table with tap water a minute after our party of 12 sat down and started asking us if we wanted to order, so we did (although not all of us were ready), and I told him that it was only for drinks. He did not mention anything about that we'll be charged service for being served at the table, and honestly I didn't mind to order at the bar, but I did not have the chance to do it. So as I said the drinks were good but the service from my point of view (I'm a waiter) was quite poor and they made us feel very uncomfortable, so we decided to leave the place after finishing our drinks. Also one of my friends had to go twice to the bar asking for her change, and both times they were ignoring her, so she stayed in front of the bartender until he decided to do his job and give my friend her change. Quite disappointing service. I like to tip the waiters after I finish my staying either at a bar or a restaurant, but after being treated that way just after arriving was not acceptable, he didn't even ask us if we wanted to open a tab for settling the bill at the end. In the end, they lost a pretty good tip for being that arrogant with me and my guests. visited Burlock on 06 May 2017

Thanks for a great night for our Leaving Do! The staff at Burlock were hugely helpful and really friendly too - which doesn't always happen in London bars. They were great at creating drinks for all our friends based on what everyone liked and made sure we all had a great night. It was an alright experience. Booked for 68 and boston but was told it was full and i was offered Burlock instead. I asked if it was going to be nice and busy, i was assured it would be. We wanted a bit of atmosphere. Unfortunately it was empty with only a few tables occupied. It was a bizz kill. Also after the guy mentioned there were lots of food options, most items were not avalaible. And what was avalaible was overly fried or oily. Cocktails were very tasty and they have a good happy hour. But as a venue, I wouldnt go back due to lack of ambience. Having booked ahead for a large group, the bar had us on a split table(!) They eventually moved he tables together on request , there was an large empty area that was reserved for someone else who didn't turn up- but we couldn't move there Don't be fooled by the all night happy hour- it's a choice of one cocktail per 3 hour slot! The staff seemed more interested in looking cool and whilst they were polite enough they lacked any substance. The cocktails all came in very small glasses and tasted very strong but not of any real flavour. The music was pretty good. I wouldn't go again. visited Burlock on 04 Feb 2017

A great selection of rum and some interesting cocktails. The staff were nice and the music was good. Some of the bar snacks are delicious, especially the jerk chicken. On the less positive side, the cocktail list is short considering all the rums they have, and most cocktails were composed of pineapple and / or cherry brandy, so not a huge amount of variety. The bar staff are not that creative if you ask them to make something else using one of the many rums they have. We had to leave earlier than planned as a DJ appeared and turned the volume up so much we could not hear each other and so conversation was impossible. visited Burlock on 28 Jan 2017

I have rated my experience at burlock three stars because I had to wait an hour for my drinks to be brought to my table and the food we ordered had run out. On the other hand after my complaint they began to pick on that and realised that it was my 18 the dj was playing amazing songs and had everyone pumped Layton make mine and my friends night he interacted with us attended to our orders right away and I was very thankful I would also like to thank sian who made my fist fish bowl over all I had a good night just the customer service needed more work visited Burlock on 21 Jan 2017

There were 30 of us which is no easy task! However this didn't seem to phase them. All the bartenders were so lovely all up for a chat and worked very hard for us. The bar itself is brilliant, great music, room for dancing and amazing cocktails. This place is a new found favourite. visited Burlock on 13 Jan 2017

Booked an area for 25 and we had a great evening. Awesome venue, quirky decor, staff were really helpful the whole evening. Bar snacks were delicious in comparison to other bars - more thought put into the food and flavours were delicious. Happy hour throughout the evening went down well, and music ramped up later to allow for a little dance. Will definitely be returning! visited Burlock on 12 Jan 2017

We hired a space for my husband's 40th - we couldn't have asked for anything better. The snacks were great, the drinks were brilliant and the music was fantastic! The staff could not have done any more to accommodate us. Everyone had a fantastic time and commented on what a brilliant choice of venue we had. We will be back! visited Burlock on 16 Dec 2016

What a fantastic venue and wonderful staff. I booked a space there for the drinks after my wedding. The Manager, Sam and the rest of his team couldn't have been more accommodating and and tentative on the lead-up to the day, as well as on the night. Couldn't recommend more. This was my second visit, but Unfortunately, on this occasion, our reservation did not quite work as they were oversubscribed. However the manager Dave did manage to sort us out a table after around 30 mins and we had a great evening. Staff are really friendly; lots of choices of rums at very good prices; happy hour cocktails and a good atmosphere . We danced till 3 am. Big big disappointed!!! I reserved table for 17 guests when I arrived I het 2 small table with 8 chars. When I spoke with the member of staff they sais that my places was not guarantee. My friends have to stand up. If I know that places will not guarantee i will never book this places,and I never will. The guy who play the music thats another story, he play the musisc for himself not for peoples who would like to dance. When I ask him to play some music he refused. We had an amazing time at Burlock! The location of our tables was fantastic and it was a great space given how many people we were! The band, although they didn't play the genre of music that was played earlier in the bar they were really good! The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The only small hiccup that we had was that the kitchen closed earlier than we were told and we didn't manage to order enough food. But other than that, the birthday cake that I pre ordered was absolutely fantastic and the drinks were amazing and the DJ was that played after the band was great. Absolutely Fabulous bar. Coctails were brill and the atmosphaire and music very nice and entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the fact that it wasn't too crowded and that the staff included the bouncer at the door were extremely nice and kind. We booked a TABLE for 19 a week or two becore our evening. However when we arrived we were given two tiny cocktail tables and told there was enough standing space. This was a great disappointment as it was a pre drinks to my daughters 21st bday dinner. I had also made a telephone call the previous day to ensure my booking was all in order. The "manager" on the day was off hand ! The waiting staff were great and tried to make our evening enjoyable. Burlock is an incredibly-well located bar just beside selfridges. The photos on here don't really do it any justice. The bar is just the right balance between cosy and lovely, the atmosphere was great the DJ to match. The drinks... I may now have an alcoholism problem for shame bar staff. If you love rum this is deffinatley a good shout. The staff were really friendly and accomadating and we had a great time.
