Description

Celebrated as one of the very best bars in London, the guys behind Callooh Callay are spreading the cocktail joy to Highbury and Islington with the launch of Little Bat.

Borrowing its name from the Mad Hatter’s poem, Little Bat is a friendly and accessible new haunt for the neighbourhood. Expect 'library' and 'museum' zones, and a food menu to rival the Upper Street restaurant scene, perfect for those hankering after something a little different.

Drop in and you’ll soon be nursing some of the best cocktails in the business thanks to master mixologists, as well as a fine choice of wine, beers and bubbles, too. Helen and the team did a great job of managing the event on the night; everyone was very professional and both the food and cocktails were delicious. Our only recommendation for the future, is to ensure there is more champagne / sparkling wine available as we ran out quite early. This minor glitch aside, we and our guests had a great evening and we would recommend the venue to other people. Little Bat is a little hidden gem! I'd been once before earlier in the evening and loved that there were a number of dogs around - the fact that they're dog-friendly really reflects their laid back vibe. This time, I went for some cocktails a bit later in the evening and loved the drinks and the atmosphere. The cocktails were very reasonably priced (£7.50 each) and the staff are also very friendly and attentive. The design of the place itself is lovely. Overall night was a combination of fast service, good food and great atmosphere as I had all my really good friends with me. The reason I am only given 2 stars is because besides the service being fast when it came to food/drinks, I wasn't really pleased with the manner in which the staff communicated with us on several occasions, not sure if it is to do with staff cultural background, but we were questioned our requests several times, almost making us feel like kids being told off by their parents, which is not what we were there for. Service should be about making customers feel at ease and enjoy their time throughout if you want repeated visits. It's really sad as I won't be recommending this place purely for that reason. I have worked in the service industry in the past and personally, good service will make or break the experience, and to be honest it was a bit like being on a rollercoaster of emotional service, is he gonna shout? or smile? or tell us off? or be funny? I brought a small group to Little Bat on a Monday night in February got a belated staff xmas drinks. The bar was unsurprising quiet. We were seated in a booth which was nice. The cocktails were good but not as good as I'd expected. We ordered from the menu and were given good advice from our server. In fact he was very knowledgeable across all aspects of the business, when they opened, upcoming new menus, current menus and food options. The food offering is basic but with some unusual peaks, loved the nachos, although the top tortilla chips were burnt. The beef in bacon is strange but tasty. My biggest gripe was the temperature of the room....it was cold. I appreciate as the bar was quiet and a long narrow space but in February I need a warm bar! I did not bring this up with our server. I noted in my booking that it was my fiance's 30th and the staff treated us so, so well and even gave us a drink on the house! We absolutely loved the unusual menu and fantastic atmosphere, the staff are all super attentive - we've found a truly lovely favourite spot to relax with each other or friends with great drinks! The staff at Little Bat were accommodating in trying to get us a table to extend our stay (even though it was a very busy Friday night), and we enjoyed the drinks and the food, without feeling too rushed. Little Bat is a belter of a bar. I went this week with my partner and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The bar is buzzy, yet full of intimate corners where you can actually have a proper conversation. The staff were very friendly, attentive and highly knowledgeable about the menu. And the drinks were absolutely delicious - occasionally unusual but in all the right ways. It ticked all the boxes and deserves the acclaim it is getting. Thank you. The staff were wonderful and so welcoming. The atmosphere was brilliant - perfect for my birthday party. Thanks Little Bat! Just one small thing - the area we were in was very cold because there was freezing cold air pouring in through an open vent. Absolutely loved Little Bat. Great chilled out atmosphere, the drinks were fantastic and the service was friendly and efficient. Great venue and good vibe, The drinks were of course course expensive but thats what you get in lunnas. Overall would go back for a couple pina coladas with a good mate.

Nice bar/decor and tasty cocktails; although very small drinks. Our waitor was friendly, but we ended up not being very happy with our experience unfortunately. We were a large group of 17 and there was no plan from the bar of how to deal with a group like ours who wanted to pay our bill separately. It took so long for the waitor to figure it out which really did put a dampener on our experience. The waitor said he was new, but he didn't appear to be receiving any useful support from a manager. On top of this, some members of my group were very cold. We asked for the air con to be turned off, but it made no difference. Amazing Bar, the cocktails were really unusual and all delicious. There was about 15 of us and when we booked we got a decent sized space as well which was good as sometimes bars give you a tiny area for a large group. We had some of the food and all of it tasted great, all of us were happy with out orders. The staff were all really friendly and fun as well. Went here on Saturday, early evening. Design of inside is lovely, bit quirky, the atmosphere is open and friendly and the staff are great, especially the manager who was friendly, funny and very present. The list of 30-odd cocktails (all unusual, no 'standard' ones at all) were to die for and the two I had were as good as I've had anywhere - I recommend The Earl of Fife ! On food, they have quirky, small plates that accompany the cocktails (pre-8pm, one of each for £10!). The Cuban Sandwich is lovely, loads of deeply flavoured BBQ pork slices in a bun. This is definitely somewhere we will be returning to! Well done, Little Bat!

Fabulous night had here! I organised leaving drinks at Little Bat Bar for a group of 20, From the initial enquiry with Richard to the booking through to the service on the night everything and everyone I dealt with were efficient and very helpful. We were assigned our own waitress so none of the group had to wait long to be served. The décor and vibe of the bar is just right and the drinks menu full of choice, reasonably priced & delicious. We will return, individually and as a group. Many thanks!

My group had a fantastic time!! Service could be a bit slow despite it being a quiet Friday night but drinks were well upto Callooh Callay's standard. Music was hit & miss for the others, I loved it - another tonic (;p) to the monotony of daytime radio!! Being away from the main road helps the atmosphere - chilled out but still buzzing I expect it will get busier as it gets more popular ('',)

So erm, you need to go this place like now! It's just tucked away from the main strip on Upper St and is a complete winner - really intimate, banging drinks, candlelit vibes, table service and a solid playlist.
