Nightjar in Shoreditch is conceived as an antidote to overcrowded West End bars and flashy nightclubs. As a destination for discerning drinkers to meet, linger and relax, The Nightjar entices with quality cocktails, attentive personal service and a vibrant and varied live music programme, and late music nights on the decks. This is the ultimate speakeasy bar of London - descend the stairs and be prepared to be enchanted by a 1920's scene of candlelit tables, glorious tin cup cocktails, and crooning jazz and swing bands soundtracking your evening. It it seating only at The Nightjar, so make a booking and soak up the magical atmosphere of this jazz and cocktail heaven. There is no other London, let alone Shoreditch bar like this. 

BOOKING POLICY

The Nightjar runs on table service and has a no standing policy or seating at the bar. Every customer has to have a seat to be served and food and drinks must be ordered from your table. Our last bookable table is 9.30pm. Thereafter available tables are allocated on a first come first served basis.

Live music is free on a Monday and Tuesday. Music charge applies on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at £5pp, on a Friday and Saturday it is charged at £8pp with an additional £4pp for guests staying on for the late set. Music begins at 9.30pm every night of the week. 

Large group bookings (10 people max) should be made well in advance and please note they take credit card details to hold the tables.

Cancellations are taken up to 1pm on the day of booking. The best way to get in touch if you want to reschedule or cancel is via email: info@barnightjar.com.

I could not recommend Nightjar more highly. They are most certainly not your average cocktail bar (which is reflected in the prices but so worth it for a really fun and special drink) and they treat their guests impeccably. Excellent place for an amazing drinking experience! Staff were lovely and helpful and knew their cocktail menu! Service was spot on. Requested a larger table/seating as I had our mother with us and was given the perfect spot for us to enjoy our drinks! We don't live in London but will certainly be visiting this place again! This was our fourth or fifth time at the Nightjar, & I think our favourite! We visited on Thursday 1st June, the band were wonderful, the drinks exceptional (although I will miss the Josephine Baker!) & you really can't fault the service. I love the Frozen Fjord, it was clean, fresh & wonderfully fruity, my partner loved the Buffalo Fizz, especially the incredible buffalo cup! We each got a complimentary pack of Nightjar playing cards at the end of the night, lovely souvenirs to add to our collection! Thanks to all the Nightjar Bar team !!! Especially our very nice Serveur, who take care of us, and who answer to all our question, about the Bar Tools, the Menu etc .... and thanks to the Barmans for the great cocktails !!! I was waiting for 2 years to come to Nightjar, i am following the news on Instragram. So i was very happy to finally come. I had a very good Birthday last sunday at Nightjar. Thank you so much !!! For sure i will come back !! And i will try also Oriole Bar. Good spot, great 1920's style ambiance with an awesome wait staff who know their cocktails and make an evening enjoyable. Make no mistake, this is an expensive night out. Additional charges for music on top of the drinks but for a special occasion, you could do a lot worse. Door staff are the standard unhelpful and arrogant but once inside you forget about that unpleasantness.

Loved it, the cocktails were great, loved the presentation and the ingredients. All the food was perfect, but was a little expensive. Atmosphere , music and service all really good. Visited on a Saturday evening with my girlfriend. Positives: Great little venue almost hidden away. Nice little speakeasy, friendly service from staff. Great music comes in the form of a live jazz band, really nice vibe. Interesting and tasty cocktails. Negative: The evening felt ruined once we got our complete bombshell of a bill. We ordered a cocktail which the couple next to us were drinking and we were charged £48 for it. Apparently it's £12 each but what they keep quiet is that it "serves a minimum of 4 people" so you still have to pay as if 4 people are drinking it! Even though they saw there was only two of us! That felt a little bit sly. On top of that they whacked on a hefty service charge and charged us £12 EACH "Weekend charge" or something like that. Apparently that is to pay for the band which I really don't mind at all as long as I'm told about it beforehand. Why keep it so quiet? At least advertise it on your website. It's a great place with a nice relaxed atmosphere - but it's a complete and utter rip-off. A real shame. Won't be going back. visited Nightjar on 11 Feb 2017

We had been hearing many great things about the famous Nightjar before visiting and we were not disappointed. We loved everything about the place, from the soothing and intimate atmosphere to the great variety of unique cocktails served in a very peculiar way to the very attentive and friendly table service. I came across Nightjar on my quest to visit the world's "best" cocktail bars and was truly unimpressed. The drinks were common and cheaply presented. The only reason this rated two stars is due to our knowledgeable server. visited Nightjar on 21 May 2017

Very good jazz live performance. Excellent cocktails. I had the 4-rum zombie, it was huge! Good service and polite staff, they were able to accommodate our request to change to a different table so that we can have a better view of the performers. Friendly security and staff but I felt that nightjar overall was overrated. The band pinstripe suits were great, however view of the band was dependent on where you sat but the band did go round the room once which was good. Therefore didn't like the layout of the bar, drinks were not to my taste. I loved the band on our night at the Nightjar but I found the cocktails too much hard work. We were not the only customers laughing nervously, wondering what to think of yet another gimmick, while the waiters worked hard to keep their cool. Felt that the tables/seating arrangement is now too cramped. I may be wrong but it felt like there were more people being crammed in, resulted in only being able to hear other people's conversations and having their drinks being spilled on me again. As a result, ​it also took a long time to get our drinks. I really suggest the waiters get a pad as they kept forgetting. Everything was extraordinary and each cocktail so special and delicious! The only thing that was not perfect: we planned on having some Tapas there, but were only informed a few hours prior to our reservation that the kitchen was closed. The kitchen was closed, but the staff kindly kept our table booked while we quickly went to have a very nice pizza next door. All waiters were very kind, helpful, expert and keen to give recommendations and advise. Jazz Delorean is a great artist and we really enjoyed his music while having some cocktails/guest beers. We were sitting next to the speaker and it was very loud. The service was very slow, it took average 30 mins to get a drink. The last one was almost 1 hour, it only came after we've cancelled it and asked for our bill. The server kindly took the last drink off of the bill though. Felt very rushed at the venue. Our booking was until 8:45 and they made us move from our table at 8:23! Also - make sure to double check your bill! They charged us for an extra cocktail which we didn't even order and then acted all surprised and gave us back cash and did not acknowledge the change in VAT or service charge! Plus there were so many empty spaces at the venue so I don't know why they would even say they were fully booked for the music performance. Overall, a positively memorable experience. The drinks were inventive to say the least as well as delicious. Music and ambiance were great. Drinks were of course at a hefty price so won't come back regularly but instead maybe once or twice a year when I have enough money to set aside. Bar service was slow on the night we were there. 30 minutes for a cocktail is probably twice the amount of time I expected to wait. Music and atmosphere were epic! We weren't so impressed with the food and were still hungry (and v drunk) at the end, but that is fine, since next time we know it is more snack-type stuff and we would probably eat before we arrive. this was the first time we have been to nightjar but it will definitely not be the last. amazing experience. I did enjoy the Nightjar but as it is rated as one of the best cocktail bars in London, I was a little underwhelmed. Firstly we were made to wait at the top of the stairs on entry, why I do not know. Then we waited 25 mins before our first drink was served. It wasn't that busy I don't understand how it could take so long. The tables were so close together the couple on the next table kept kicking my leg. The real down point was paying 8£ for 4 of the smallest prawns. Nightjar has to be one of the best bars in the world. the cocktails are all fantastic creations and magnificently presented. My fafourite bar in London. First of all there are the incredibly well crafted drinks. Not only do they taste very well, the presentation (especially of the signature drinks) is astonishing. We've been to Nightjar quite a few times and this was far below what we normally expected. Our 'Forest Floor' shared cocktail tasted quite weak but it was the poor service that we were slightly let down with. - We only received 4 water glasses and we were a party of 5 - Those glasses were never refilled - The shared cocktail was spilt by the pourer who delivered it us and only dabbed a couple of napkins to clean it up, but it wasn't actually fully clean and usable - After the first drink was delivered, no one came to our table for over an hour and the reason they came over was to tell us that we wanted to leave soon, we then had to ask for menus and that we wanted to order one more Normally we absolutely love Nightjar and always take over overseas friends to it but this time was really underwhelming and absolutely not what the same standard or what we paid for. visited Nightjar on 21 Apr 2017

Disappointed. We arrived slightly late and received an email asking us to contact them asap or loose table. I replied immediately explaining we couldn't find them but we were there. I got an automated response back? I called but no one would answer. The door host couldn't find my name, I showed him emails. He said they were no good all he wanted was confirmation number. I said could my guests go in whilst I was searching all my emails - he said " no " to my embarrassment. ( I was with an important 70 year old client and his wife ). After about 5 minutes of showing various emails he found my name ON THE TOP OF HIS LIST !! We then entered walked through a nice small lively bar area round a tiny narrow corridor to a prison cell type cave completely away from bar. I was again embarrassed. I had to plead, beg then instist to waitress that we had to move. We had not been driven to London 35 miles to sit in a cell. I could of stayed at home and sat in my garage. She moved us reluctantly. Wait for drinks 10/12 minutes. Wait for last 1drink ; 15/17 minutes. Disappointed- embarrassed !! visited Nightjar on 21 Apr 2017

Nice ambient atmosphere, good music. Entering the venue was odd. Arrived at the door exactly on time and told to wait. Waited 10mins. Then let in but told (twice) to wait at the top of the stairs. Drinks took an age to arrive and were very expensive. visited Nightjar on 14 Apr 2017

So the NIghtjar is good - v excuslive etc. But easy if you plan ahead - the entertainment was straight from Butlins tho' the guy was terrible. I felt sorry for the rest of the band because they were good - but the singer (who sung about the M25) no, no thank you visited Nightjar on 15 Apr 2017

Old school decor, speakeasy style, 1920 prohibition feel with live jazz music on the daily, Nightjar is the spot to go when your feeling like immersing yourself in a world away from the city above. The drinks are awesome and some of the most inventive you will find. The barrel aged zombie is deadly by the by as is the prices if you make an evening of it. Definately a spot for celebrating or just relaxing in style.

Brilliant drinks and atmosphere. Most of the waiting staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the bar was very busy and we waited a very long time between being able to order drinks, after waiting when we were asked if we would like another we were also told we would need to order asap as we were running out of time!! Fantastic. The decor and drinks were first class; but I'd particularly applaud the service. The staff responded to us and approached us in just the right way at just the right times, not too little but not much either, a minor mistake some establishments make I think. I really enjoy cocktail bars, but I occasionally find cocktail bar staff a little supercilious - not so at Nightjar, where the staff answered all our questions and recommended us drinks courteously and patiently. This is my 4th visit to the Nightjar and the only time I have been left disappointed. We did not receive our usual level of service or quality of drinks. In a 2 hour visit we only received two drinks and our water and nibbles were not topped up. The bar was quiet and there were adequate staff to meet the demand, however the staff did not appear to be organised or have set tables to manage which resulted in our party and other patrons waiting too long for service. Furthermore the drinks we did receive were not brought to the table at the same time, Obviously there will be some difference in time for complex cocktails but for one member of a couple to receive their drink 15 minutes before their partner is unacceptable. Finally when we went to leave we were initially given the wrong bill, the staff were apologetic but it was just another example of mismanagement in what was an altogether poor night. visited Nightjar on 24 Mar 2017

It's very hard to get a reservation at Nightjar but I feel they are resting on their laurels when it comes to the service and the comfort they offer to their clients. They cram people anywhere, you can end up sitting underneath a clothes hook with other people's clothes over your head. There is no privacy because of how their seating arrangements so it's also not a good place for a date. They list 8pm slots as live music slots but the music only starts at 9:30pm so if you book a 2h slot at 8pm they will charge you for the music and kick you out soon after it starts. I always get the same cocktail but for some reason this time it didn't taste as usual, it makes me feel like they are letting go of quality and treating customers with respect and only taking advantage of their fame. When I was told they served the best cocktails in London I was a littl sceptical. I have to say that the atmosphere, service, live music were all soo good I'd go back just for that! The cocktails were genuinely incredible. Their Zombie comes with madiera cake and the house punch is out of this world. Definitely recommend both. The music was wonderfully played and tight and well rehearsed. The cocktails though expensive were well prepared and and crafted. The ingredients were all very fresh. Waiting staff were accommodating of my partners birthday celebration and explained every single cocktail to us and made them more of a joy to indulge in.
