{"id":549,"date":"2017-03-16T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-16T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stylefix.boohoo.com\/us\/story\/10-life-lessons-i-learned-at-uni"},"modified":"2017-06-22T21:14:23","modified_gmt":"2017-06-22T20:14:23","slug":"10-life-lessons-i-learned-at-uni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefix.boohoo.com\/us\/story\/10-life-lessons-i-learned-at-uni","title":{"rendered":"10 Life Lessons I Learned at Uni\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by <i>Clare Evans<\/i><\/p>\n<div class=\"collage i1\">\n<div class=\"collage-image i1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thefix.boohoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/10-life-lessons-i-learned-at-uni_60588_22500.jpeg?w=800&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"10 Life Lessons I Learned at Uni\u2026\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">If you\u2019re currently in the middle of an \u201coh my god I\u2019m never going to hit the word count on my dissertation\u201d university stress, this one\u2019s for you.<\/p>\n<p>Being at uni is like being in a bubble of booze, work, and more booze that always feels like it\u2019s *just* about ready to burst at any moment.<\/p>\n<p>SPOLIER ALERT: it doesn\u2019t and you\u2019ll be MORE than fine, trust me.<\/p>\n<p>Having graduated from university in 2011 \u2013 that\u2019s SIX whole years ago &#8211; I reckon that makes me more than qualified to share some of the life lessons I learned from coming out the other side. I hope this helps gals!<\/p>\n<h2>1. Hangovers DON\u2019T get any better. You just get better at hiding them<\/h2>\n<p class=\"center\">Remember the days when you\u2019d rock up to a lecture, hungover AF with massive shades and rest your head on the desk? You can\u2019t do that at work. You\u2019ll still feel as rough as you did after Thirsty Thursday &#8211; you just get better at pretending you feel fresh. Illuminating primers are the secret to that \u201cI\u2019m fresh, I promise\u201d face.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"center\">2. Budgeting is both real (and necessary)<\/h2>\n<p class=\"center\">When you graduate, no-one gives you free cash handouts anymore *sob* and you have to start spending your money more wisely. There\u2019s \u201cgrown up\u201d things to save for and grad jobs don\u2019t always pay the best. Learn to be good with money at uni (and save while you\u2019re there if you can!) and it\u2019ll be much easier when you leave.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"center\">3. Leaving work \u2018till the last minute is NEVER a good idea<\/h2>\n<p class=\"center\">All-nighters suck at uni and while you might just be able to scrape a pass now, you won\u2019t be so lucky when it comes to work. Letting everything pile up and trying to do it all at the last minute will not only make you look pretty rubbish to your boss, but it\u2019ll also make you super-stressed and cause you to burn out. Master working on projects as they come in at uni \u2013 you\u2019ll need to juggle when you get to work!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"center\">4. You\u2019ll never have a good answer to \u201cTell me something interesting about yourself?\u201d<\/h2>\n<p class=\"center\">It\u2019s the ice breaker we all have to face at uni and, I hate to break it to you, but you\u2019ll never find a decent answer when you graduate. You\u2019ll be asked in every job interview and team building day from now until the end of time so pick something and stick to it. My default? James from Busted follows me on Twitter. See? It doesn\u2019t *actually* have to be interesting.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"center\">5. There\u2019s nothing wrong with being ambitious and having goals<\/h2>\n<p class=\"center\">Ambition is NOT a dirty word. Aim for the stars. Always. It\u2019s what will push you to move on to bigger and better things. Whatever your goals are, keep them in your mind.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"center\">6. EVERYONE has a horrible job at some point&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<p class=\"center\">Got a lecturer you really don\u2019t like now? You\u2019ll find a boss you like even less! It might be in your first graduate job or it might be later down the line. But at some point you WILL have a crappy job. And that\u2019s not always a bad thing. It helps you find out what you do wanna do for a living and, clich\u00e9 as it is, it makes you stronger. Remember: If you don\u2019t like where you are, move. You\u2019re not a tree.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"center\">7. The friends you make a university become your BFFs for life<\/h2>\n<p class=\"center\">You go through dissertation dramas, falling in \u2013 and out of \u2013 love, you see each other at your best AND your worst\u2026those friends you spend your university days with really do become your pals for life. Whether you all move to different cities or stay local, you\u2019ll forever be making plans in your WhatsApp group and championing each other as you move on in life.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"center\">8. You\u2019ll feel like a grown up, but not a \u201cgrown up\u201d grown up<\/h2>\n<p class=\"center\">Graduating from university is weird. You\u2019ve officially finished with education so you\u2019re no longer a \u201cstudent\u201d but you don\u2019t quite feel old enough to be an adult yet. It\u2019s an awkward time \u2013 and you thought being 16 was weird \u2013 but enjoy it. You\u2019ve got responsibilities now\u2026but you\u2019re still allowed (heck, expected!) to make mistakes along the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><b>Image credit:<\/b> <a
