Everyone with anxiety feels it in different ways but inevitably, we\u2019re all struggling through the same awful penance.<\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For me, anxiety is like Kryptonite and when I get too close to, let\u2019s say rejection, I succumb to a tumbling bout of depressive feels. Pow, right in the kisser. Admittedly, it\u2019s not easy to get out of an anxiety or panic attack and we applaud those who try &#8211; even if they do tend to worsen the symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>In the past year of learning and growing with anxiety, I now understand just some of the things you\u2019re not supposed to say to those with the disorder.<\/p>\n<p>Are you ready kids? (Here\u2019s where you all excitedly shout, \u201cAye aye, Captain\u201d, you know how it goes\u2026)<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><b><span class=\"dfs11\">\u201cCalm Down\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"collage i1\">\n<div class=\"collage-image i1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thefix.boohoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/just-chill-with-saying-these-things-to-people-with-anxiety_34320_900271.gif?w=800&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Just Chill With Saying These Things To People With Anxiety...\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"center\">First off, never ever ever EVER tell someone with anxiety to calm down. Not only does it make the person freak out even more, but it\u2019s also incredibly patronising. Like ok mate, if I could calm down I would.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><b><span class=\"dfs11\">\u201cIt\u2019s all in your head\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<div class=\"collage i1\">\n<div class=\"collage-image i1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thefix.boohoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/just-chill-with-saying-these-things-to-people-with-anxiety_53308_004511.gif?w=800&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Just Chill With Saying These Things To People With Anxiety...\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"center\">We\u2019re grossly aware it\u2019s in our head, and that is uh&#8230; kind of the problem. The issue with anxiety is that even the smallest thing can set you off, and it\u2019s beyond your control. Telling someone that it\u2019s all in their head is only worsening things.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><span class=\"dfs11\"><b>\u201cDon\u2019t stress about it\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"collage i1\">\n<div class=\"collage-image i1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thefix.boohoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/just-chill-with-saying-these-things-to-people-with-anxiety_15663_229631.gif?w=800&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Just Chill With Saying These Things To People With Anxiety...\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"center\">You must\u2019ve had some \u2018good statement\u2019 juice this morning because honestly, we\u2019d never thought about it. It\u2019s far easier said than done. Oh really? Because honestly, we\u2019d never thought about that either. People with anxiety are well aware of others suffering in perverse conditions, but it isn\u2019t the least bit helpful to their own situation. In some cases, it makes them feel even worse about feeling so terrible, over the things they\u2019re upset over, in the first place!<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><span class=\"dfs11\"><b>\u201cHave I done something?\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"collage i1\">\n<div class=\"collage-image i1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thefix.boohoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/just-chill-with-saying-these-things-to-people-with-anxiety_36520_968421.gif?w=800&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Just Chill With Saying These Things To People With Anxiety...\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"center\">Sure it may feel like you\u2019re the reason for this sudden burst of uncontrollable self-loathing and self-doubt, but you must be reminded that saying these words only adds to a person\u2019s panic and makes them feel heaps of guilt, at the very hands of your question.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><span class=\"dfs11\"><b>\u201cBe positive\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"collage i1\">\n<div class=\"collage-image i1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thefix.boohoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/just-chill-with-saying-these-things-to-people-with-anxiety_00242_371911.gif?w=800&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Just Chill With Saying These Things To People With Anxiety...\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"center\">It\u2019s not all about being negative, for many people anxiety plays on past fears or traumas. Saying \u2018be positive\u2019 to someone with anxiety isn\u2019t as easy as walking into a room and switching on a light. It takes time and effort to train your mind into optimistic thoughts.
