The City Breaks That Need To Be On Your Bucket List

There’s nothing I enjoy more in this world than packing my suitcase and escaping on a city break for the weekend. With the summer holidays fast approaching and flights sales galore, there’s never been a better time to book one (not that there’s ever a bad time…).

Whether you’re after a splash of culture or a busy nightlife, my tried and tested list has them all. Prepare for some serious travel inspo.

1. Barcelona

Barcelona is the epitome of city breaks – it has the perfect mix of the beach, beautiful weather and culture. With an atmosphere like no other, there’s something for everyone. Don’t forget to check out the La Boqueria food market for some authentic Catalan cuisine.

2. Berlin

Berlin is definitely one of the cooler cities to visit in Europe. There’s museums, art galleries and history on every street corner, and the Kreuzberg districts hosts some of Europe’s most famous clubs. If you’re feeling edgy, check out the Alternative Bar Crawls or Graffiti Tours – you won’t regret it.

3. Paris

Ah, mon chérie! In the words of Audrey Hepburn, Paris is always a good idea, and anyone who knows me knows my obsession with this city. With windy cobbled streets, beautiful food, and incredible landmarks, Paris is best suited for the romantics. Just don’t forget to take me with you.

4. Vienna

The birthplace of Mozart, this magnificent city is easily the prettiest city that I’ve ever seen. I had the pleasure of visiting last Winter, and its beauty and charm certainly didn’t disappoint. For unbeatable views, take a trip to the roof of St Stephen’s Cathedral.

5. Rome

Rome is a trip of a lifetime in itself. Wherever you go, you’re constantly surrounding by rich history and culture in an incredible atmosphere. With extra points for the incredible food and hot men, I’d go back in a heartbeat.

6. Stockholm

Stockholm should be visited just for the meatballs. The city is made up of 5 islands that you travel around via bridges, and the sunset views from Gamla Stan are unbeatable. Plus, it’s only a short train ride away from Gothenburg, another gorgeous Swedish city.

7. Madrid

I had the pleasure of living in the Spanish capital, and it remains one of my favourite places to this day. Top sights include the Plaza Mayor, the palace and one of the many rooftop bars. I’d also recommend a trip to Malasaña, Madrid’s quirkiest neighbourhood and my old local haunt.

8. Edinburgh

If Edinburgh was good enough to inspire Miss Rowling when she wrote her famous books, it’s good enough for everyone. My favourite time of year to visit is during the Summer, when the city plays host to the famous Fringe festival, and I solemnly swear that Elephant and Bagels gives the best carb fix in the world.

9. Amsterdam

Although I was a bit sceptical upon my visit, my friends have since changed my mind about this Dutch city. With cheap flights from all over the UK, Amsterdam seems to have become the place to be in recent years. The canals are particularly beautiful this time of year, and the Van Gogh museum alongside Anne Frank’s annex are a must see.

10. London

Taking a city break doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to leave the UK, and with that logic, London should be on your list. Although I live here (in dire poverty of course), London is one of the best cities in the world. From Notting Hill, to Central London and Shoreditch, there’s so much to explore that you’ll never be bored.
